The world's best selling cars Toyota Matrix and Corolla are hounded with steering problems, say US safety officials. The 2009 and 2010 models of the vehicles have been proved hazardous by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which formally launched a probe on the basis of 168 complaints received from the owners.It has been one of the world’s biggest car manufacturing company for the last 30-40 years delivering nations with sedans, SUVs and MUVs . However, its goodwill has suffered a huge dent, following a possible recall of their most renowned Sedan in North American Market: the Corolla.
Corolla owners alleged that in models 2009 through 2010, Toyota Corolla and Matrix vehicles electric power steering turned unresponsive or loose while driving at highway speeds.
After Honda, it was the Toyota Corolla which was detected with a faulty steering problem. A formal complaint has been launched with NHSTA (National Highway safety traffic administration) who have sent a research team to the Toyota Motors factory.
The Toyota Corolla 2009 - 2010 models were a part of previous recall of Toyota Motors which stemmed from faulty accelerator pedal and braking problems. Toyota Motors has recalled about 8.5 million cars worldwide due to safety issues ranging from unintended acceleration to now uncontrolled steering. Toyota chief, Akio Toyoda will appear in front of a US congressional hearing on February 24.
