THE CONGRESS party’s 201-seat tally is the best ever by any party since 1991, when it won 197 seats. The BJP's tally of 121 is the worst since 1991. The tally of the Left and its allies, 23, is the worst ever. Congress has staged a comeback in India's largest state, U.P, with nearly 22 seats (counting is still on there), after 25 years. And this election saw the final nail in the coffin of the regional and caste-based parties. The middle class is relieved that the regional parties' ambition of becoming the kingmaker and in course of time, forming an instable government has been thwarted. The people of India clearly ignored communalism, caste-ism, and jingoism and voted for stability.
