FOURTH ROUND Asian shock for three time finalist Andy Roddick at Wimbledon 2010. An 82nd ranked player from Taiwan, Yen-hsnu Lu defeated Roddick 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 9-7 on Monday.
Strangely Lu had not won a single match at All England Club in past four years, defeated Roddick in four and half hour match. The victory came to Lu in the 16th game of the fifth set.
Lu is first Asian since Shuzo Matsuoka of Japan to reach the quarterfinals of any Grand Slam.
In other match on day seven of Wimbledon Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova 7-6(9), 6-4 to reach quarterfinals. In all Belgian clash Kim Clijsters defeated Justine Henin 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Defending champion Roger Federer, third-seeded Novak Djokovic and five-time women's winner Venus Williams also advanced on an action-packed day featuring all remaining players in fourth-round matches.
Serena said after match, "I don't serve like this too often. I don't know what it is about this court that makes me serve well.”
When asked about clash of 2004 where she was defeated by Sharapova, she said, “That was so long ago that I don't think it gives me any more added or any less satisfaction,"
