TODAY'S MATCH between world number one Serena Williams and unseeded Czech Petra Kvitova might not seem like a clash of the titans but rather a situation, where who will outperform whom. Post her 6-2, 6-1 loss against Serena in the Australia Open early this January, the 20 year old has amassed the attention of the world number one in the past 10 days.
Ladies and gentlemen, here's presenting world number 62, Petra Kvitova who has killed three seeded players in the Wimbledon championship 2010 to clinch her first ever semi-final birth in a Grand Slam which also included defeating US Open runner up Caroline Wozniacki.
The result has not surprised Serena even one bit as she had seen Petra Kvitova gaining confidence as the tournament developed. Speaking about the advance that Petra has made so far, Serena was candid about the confession that, “ I actually thought she would get through in the early rounds. I'm not surprised that I'm playing her. She's really, really good. Early in the tournament, I saw her playing a couple of rounds and I was like, 'wow, she's doing really well'. She was just hitting the ball so clean.
Serena also said that after Petra defeated Caroline Wozniacki she had analysed that the former is a tough player, specially on grass.
Going by all these encouraging words, if, considering the odds Serena loses this game, then she probably might kick herself back home all the way up till Florida!
