A GREAT day for American football, they defeated Australian team 3-1 in their final warm up match of World Cup 2010 on Saturday. La Galaxy striker Edson Buddle scored his first two international goals in the first half and substitute Herculez Gomez scoring the third goal in stoppage time.
The striker took three steps and unleashed a perfect right-foot shot in the fourth minute that easily beat Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. Australia went defensive and possessed more but was hit again on the break in the 15th minute. The Socceroos hit back four minutes later through Cahill as he reacted quickest to a Jason Culina corner and scored his 21st international goal.
In 31st minute U.S. did their second goal, on Steve Cherundolo’s pass Buddle made no mistake and with a header. Australia did made some failed attempt, but unable to find the gap. Both managers made changes at half-time with Cahill replaced by Carl Valeri and Marcus Hahnemann coming on for U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard.
