IT WAS unreasonable on part of the BJP to get agitated on advice of Union Sports Minister Dr MS Gill, who suggested that RTI route should be taken to get information about the Commonwealth Games 2010. RTI Act is country’s most powerful post-independence Act which has armed even commoners with power that earlier only Parliamentarians possessed. Mindset of BJP leaders in Parliament, it appears makes them feel unprivileged if they use RTI petitions, like these are being used by ordinary people of this country to expose corruption.
RTI Act is a law, which had the fastest rate of awareness amongst common people. It is but natural that Union Sports Ministry and Organizing Committee for Commonwealth Games 2010 might have been flooded with RTI petitions after big exposure of corruption in last some days.
To save man-hours in responding to such extra large number of RTI petitions, Union Sports Ministry and Organizing Committee for Commonwealth Games 2010 should make a smart beginning by putting information on their website which could satisfy queries of RTI petitioners.
