Top five players to set the stadia on fire at US Open on Monday

THE OPENING day of the US Open on Monday will see stalwarts like Kim Clijsters, Roger Federer, Venus Williams and Andy Roddick battling it out at the Arthur Ashe center court. Clijsters will be defending her 2009 US Open title, while men's defending champion Juan Martin del Porto will be missing from action due to injury.

The matches which will be played across 17 courts will see Kim Clijsters taking on Hungarian Greta Arn and Venus Williams pitched against Italian Roberta Vinci in the women's singles. Andy Roddick and Roger Federer will take on France's Stephane Robert and Argentinian Brian Dabul respectively.

Australian Lleyton Hewitt will be battling it out at the Louis Armstrong stadium against France's Paul-Henri Mathieu. India's Sania Mirza will be facing Portugal's Michelle Larcher De Brito.

Roger Federer will not be starting the event as the defending champion as he had lost to Argentina's Juan Martin del Porto during 2009's finals. Del Porto is out from this year's tournament and Federer well be cast against another Argentine Brian Dabul.

Spaniard, Rafael Nadal who is the top seeded and ranked number 1 player in this year's edition of the US Open is yet to clinch a US Open title. So far, his best performance ever at the US Open was during 2008 and 2009. 24-year old Nadal, already has eight major titles which include five French Opens, two Wimbledons and one Australian Open.

If everything goes well, the spectators might be be able to witness another spectacle, that is, watching Federer and Nadal play each other for the first time ever at the US Open although they have faced each other 21 different times at various Grand Slam events.
