ENGLAND CAPTAIN Andrew Strauss has won the toss and decided to bat first in the fourth and final quarter final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The winner of the match will play against New Zealand in the first semi final on March 29 at the same venue.
The English team that defeated West Indies in its must-win match for the next round by 18 runs, has made no changes in the playing XI against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has made one change in the winning combination, who won against New Zealand by 112 runs in the last group league match at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Left-arm orthodox bowler Rangana Herath came in the playing XI against England in place of Nuwan Kulsekera.
In the Cricket World Cup matches, the English team is leading by 6-2 against Sri Lanka. However, Sri Lankan have won two of the last three Cricket World Cup matches against England including a two-run victory in Antigua during the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
The English team have played Cricket World Cup finals thrice in 1979 against West Indies, in 1987 against Australia, and in 1992, against Pakistan but has never won the prestigious trophy. Sri Lanka has played two finals of the Cricket World Cup in 1996 and 2007, both against Australia, and won the trophy in 1996.
