THE R. PREMADASA stadium in Colombo is going to be the battle ground of the ninth ICC Cricket World Cup finalist teams Sri Lanka and Australia. Four years back at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the team from Down Under defeated the mighty Lankans by 53 runs from the Duckworth–Lewis method (D/L method) and took revenge of 1996 World Cup final.
Sri Lankan batting is mainly dependent on Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. However, their middle order is not looking in a great form. In the bowling department, Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan are their main weapons.
Australian opener Shane Watson, captain Ricky Ponting and his deputy Michael Clarke are their key players. In the middle-order Cameron White and David Hussey can add some quick runs for their team. Their bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee can check on rate rates and pick wickets.
In the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Sri Lanka won their two matches and lost one match in a close chase against Pakistan, whereas Australia won their both matches against Zimbabwe and New Zealand by 91 runs and seven wickets respectively.
Australia and Sri Lanka have played 71 One Day Internationals with each other, where the Australians won 47 matches and the Sri Lankans won 22 times. However, in the sub-continent, both teams have met 19 times and the Lankans have an edge of 12-7.
Match no. 20 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 between two group 'A' teams Australia and Sri Lanka will be played under flood lights. Match will start from 2:30 pm local time.
