IN THE twenty fourth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 between two group 'A' teams Pakistan and New Zealand at the newly built stadium in Kandy, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and decided to bat first. There is some grass on the wicket that will help pacers a little bit. This is the first time in the ongoing mega cricketing event that Pakistan will chase the target.
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has made two changes in the playing XI from the last match against Canada. He included Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar and Abdur Rehman in place of Saeed Ajmal and Wahab Riaz.
New Zealand team has changed one player from the last encounter against Zimbabwe, where the Kiwis completed the target of 162 runs with 10 wickets in hand in just 33.3 overs. New Zealand captain Vettori picked Jacob Oram in place of Jesse Ryder in the playing XI.
Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi is the leading wicket taker of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. He picked 14 wickets in three matches including two five-wickets hauls. Pakistan vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq is the leading run-getter for his team, and has scored 185 runs so far from three matches.
The New Zealand team who lost ODI series by 3-2 against Pakistan at home before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, won last World Cups match against Pakistan 28 years back in 1983. Since then Pakistan had won six matches in a row, the last one being in the 1999 World Cup.
