After the start of commercial run of first 600 MW unit of Khedar thermal plant the total generation capacity of state is 2630 MW. The second 600 MW unit of Khedar plant is under maintenance since November 25 last. However, it is not yet clear that weather trial run of unit has been commissioned or not. The unit achieved load of 588 MW on November 23 to 25 and is yet to achieve full load of 600 MW mandatory for completion of trial run of unit.

Khedar was the first project to be awarded mega-project status in the Northern region under the mega project policy of the Central government. The two units were expected to be commissioned within 35 and 38 months from January 2007.
