TRAI, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to start online registration of telemarketing companies from Jan 15. New telemarketers will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 1,000 and customer education fee of Rs 9,000 while existing ones will have to pay only the customer education fee.The registration would be valid for a period of 3 years unless revoked earlier.The last date for submitting counter comments is on January 28. Other provisions shall come into force from February 1.
Last year, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India announced a set of new measures to curb commercial calls and sms, which were to be implemented from Jan 1.The registration process requiring all the telemarketers to fill in online application forms was postponed due to security reasons.
These regulations includes a fine in the range of Rs 25,000 to Rs. 2,50,000 for defaulting companies for pesky calls and allocation of number starting with 70 making it easy for customers to recognise their numbers.
