Ticket demand causes injury in Chennai

Hundreds of fans queuing for World Cup tickets pushed down a section of wall at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, injuring one person.

Crowds were trying to get tickets to the India v West Indies game on March 20 when the wall gave way.

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association secretary K.S. Viswanathan said: “The wall is at the periphery of the stadium and a small portion of it collapsed when fans pressed against it.”

Sri Lankan politician makes plea to the ICC

Former president of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) Thilanga Sumathipala has asked the ICC not to exclude Eden Gardens as a World Cup venue.

The historic stadium in Kolkata has already lost the right to stage the India v England match on February 27 after renovation work was deemed too far behind schedule.

The fate on the remaining three non-India matches hosted on the ground in March is subject to approval by the ICC team who will visit the venue in three phases on February 7, 14 and 22.
